Yalova University – Turkey

Prof. Dr. Derya GUROY

His research is principally directed towards improving the production efficiency, health, and welfare of farm-raised fish and is internationally credited for providing a new and better understanding of the nutritional requirements of fish and formulating effective feeds for their growth and development from the hatchery to the table. His work promotes the use of sustainable resources and technology in this field. Fundamental work on defining fish nutritional requirement’s is being widely employed in the industry for implementing feeding specifications, optimum management and correct diet formulations for different fish species throughout the production phases. One of his specialized areas is the assessment of novel protein and energy-rich ingredients to use in aquafeeds to replace the current dependency on fish meals and fish oils which address concerns due to the unsustainable use of these commodities in the expanding aquaculture sector. Recent studies involve the testing of a new generation of feed additive and micro-macro algae in fish diets. Dr. Guroy has produced more than 100 major scientific papers and reports in this field. Much of his work has been funded by leading industrial companies such as Olmix (France), Alltech (USA) as well as Turkey Government agencies such as TUBİTAK, Agriculture and Forester Ministry of the EU spanning 20 years.

Dr. Betül GÜROY

Through further and higher education programs, she is very interested in all types of education, from social services to school to vocational training. Her research is evaluation of fish feeds enriched with different resources in the aquaculture sector.mainly aimed at determining the effects of the use of algae in the feed of fish grown on the farm and the potential of the feasibility of Spirulina cultivation with geothermal water. Along with the use of algae resources in fish feeds, it is also her vision to produce information to meet the demand of future generations for healthy foods. Spirulina production stages and its use are important in industrial areas such as food agricultural fertilizer chemical pharmaceutical cosmetics. One of her areas of specialization is the evaluation of fish feeds enriched with different resources in the aquaculture sector.
